Congress and the Public Deserve Transparency on the Iran Deal

Congress and the Public Deserve Transparency on the Iran Deal US President Donald J. Trump The Weekly Standard , September 25, 2017  - Announcing the adoption of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, then-Secretary of State John Kerry said that the agreement marked a “measurable step away from the prospect of nuclear proliferation, towards transparency and cooperation.” The administration, though, was far from transparent or cooperative about explaining the Iran deal. Lost in the discussion of whether President Trump should re-certify Iran as compliant with the JCPOA by next month is the basic fact that there’s still a lot about the deal lawmakers and the public don’t know.

September 19, 2017 Map of Iran - Middle East By Heshmat Alavi Al Arabiya, 18 September 2017  - There is a new understanding in Washington over how US President Donald Trump, set to deliver his first United Nations General Assembly speech tomorrow, can tackle the Iran challenge. It would be wrong to view the conglomerate of Iran-created crises through a single periscope focusing exclusively on the nuclear dilemma. Iran’s meddling in states across the Middle East, its support for terrorists groups including the likes of the Lebanese Hezbollah, the continuous pursuit of ballistic missiles and domestic  human rights violations  are also serious concerns. The question is how to adopt a proper Iran policy approach to address all questions with equal importance. The plan has been described as a “21st century financial version of [John F.] Kennedy’s Cuba quarantine,” according to a copy leaked to the media. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, known to early ...

'While the political space is clearly very charged right now, we haven't seen a change in the posture of North Korean forces,' General Joe Dunford told the Senate Armed Services Committee. 'We watch that very carefully,' Dunford said, in response to questions from Republican Senator John McCain about rising tensions with Pyongyang after US President Donald Trump mockingly labeled North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un 'Little Rocket Man' and said his regime 'won't be...

Is Iran’s enhanced ballistic missile capability a calculated move? By Heshmat Alavi Special to Al Arabiya English Monday, 25 September 2017 Text size  A   A   A As the North Korea nuclear standoff and the future of Iran’s nuclear deal has absorbed an all-too enormous amount of international attention, a more important prism on Iran’s regional hostility must not go neglected. During the United Nations General Assembly the controversial nuclear pact, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), took center stage once again. All the while Tehran has throughout the years overtly and covertly pursued a massive campaign hinging on meddling and extending its lethal ideology of Islamic fundamentalism across the Middle East. The rendered atrocities can be witnessed across the region, especially in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon. This threatens the very fabric of the Middle East populace and bears the potential of plunging thi...
