UN Photo UN News Center, 21 December 2017  – By an overwhelming majority, Member States in the  United Nations  General Assembly on Thursday “demanded” that all countries comply with Security Council resolutions regarding the status of Jerusalem. Through a resolution adopted by a recorded vote of 128 in favour to nine against, with 35 abstentions, the 193-member Assembly expressed “deep regret” over recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem and stressed that the Holy City “is a final status issue to be resolved through negotiations in line with relevant UN resolutions.” Action in the Assembly today follows a failed attempt by the Security Council on Monday adopt a similar text reflecting regret among the body’s members about “recent decisions regarding the status of Jerusalem,” with ...

UN Security Council strongly condemns terrorist attack in Egypt 10/22/2017 7:09:55 PM Wide view of the Security Council UN News Center, 21 October 2017  – Condemning “in the strongest terms” the terrorist attack that took place Friday in Egypt's El Wahat desert, the  United Nations  Security Council underlined the need to bring the perpetrators and sponsors of such “reprehensible acts” to justice. According to reports, more than 50 police personnel were killed and many injured.  “Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security,” reaffirmed the Security Council members in a press statement issued today. “Any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed,” they reiterated. General Assembly elects new members to UN Human Rights Council A delegate casts his country’s ballot during the General Assembly’s election UN News Center, 16 October 2017  – The General Assembly today elected, by secret ballot, 15 States to serve on the Human Rights Council, the highest intergovernmental body in the  United Nations  system for matters relating to protection and promotion of human rights worldwide. Newly elected to the Geneva-based Human Rights Council are Afghanistan, Angola, Australia, Chile, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Qatar, Senegal, Slovakia, Spain and Ukraine. All would serve three-year terms beginning on 1 January 2018.
