People Of Ahvaz Demonstrate Over Sabotaging Karoon Water In Iran On Friday, December 22, 2017, a group of people in Ahvaz gathered in protest to the transferring of Karoon water project in Iran. People held up banners and chanted their  demands  to prevent the project from taking place. Iranian officials have planned a water-channeling project based on distributing more water from Karun’s main tributaries to other provinces of Iran. Karoon , a large river that originates from the Zard-Kuh slopes of the Bakhtiari Province in western Iran, receives many tributaries before passing through the capital of Khuzestan Province. Due to the quality and amount of Karun’s water, the largest agricultural industry and investment is in this region. But the water has been channeled to other provinces.
