Rep. Chris Stewart: Iran takes the Middle East to the edge of war 12/28/2017 8:53:55 AM Houthi Shiite fighters ride on a vehicle as they patrol a street near the residence of former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, in Sanaa, Yemen By Rep. Chris Stewart    Washington Examiner, Dec. 28, 2017  - Last Tuesday, Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen launched a ballistic missile against Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Fortunately, the missile was intercepted and destroyed by an American-made Patriot Surface to Air Missile. Had the ballistic missile hit any number of critical targets in Riyadh, such as the U.S. Embassy, the Gulf Cooperation Council Headquarters, or, as has been targeted before, the Riyadh International Airport, an immediate escalation of the ongoing war between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi rebels would have been inevitable. And it’s important to realize that this dangerous provocation is not an isolated incident. The Houthis ...

VIDEO: One way to counter Iran's aggression? Change the map of the Middle East 12/26/2017 9:03:30 AM The current political structure of the Middle East serves Iran’s interests Fox News, Dec. 25, 2017  - Iran’s geopolitical ascent is the most significant and dangerous development in the Middle East this century. But while the Trump administration’s new National Security Strategy properly identifies Iran as among the important challenges to U.S. security interests, it doesn’t offer a concrete strategy on how to counter Iran’s growing regional power. President Trump should follow the example of President Reagan, who pursued an offensive strategy to undermine the Soviet Union that included supporting indigenous anti-communist insurgents around the globe. Today, America should support indigenous forces that oppose – and seek independence from – Iranian domination. Reversing the strategic threat posed by Iran will require a continued U.S. military pre...

Hostage crisis anniversary reminder of need for change in Iran

Hostage crisis anniversary reminder of need for change in Iran © Getty Images On Nov. 4, the Iranian regime commemorated the 38th anniversary of the U.S. Embassy takeover in 1979, when dozens of Americans were taken hostage for 444 days. This year, it paraded its ballistic missiles in front of the former U.S. Embassy in Tehran. With chants of "Death to America," the disdain for international norms and the nuclear deal came through loud and clear. But that image does not represent Iran. Today, the average Iranian citizen longs for friendship and mutually beneficial ties with the outside world, particularly the United States. In 1979, it was not only Americans taken hostage by a medieval theocratic order; the Iranian people were also taken hostage and held captive after their democratic revolution was usurped by Khomeini. Decades later, the prospects of change in Iran are closer and more viable than ever. Internal conditions are conducive to a fundamental ...

Watch: Iranian masses chant 'Death to the dictator!'

Watch: Iranian masses chant 'Death to the dictator!' On Monday, The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) posted two videos depicting thousands of Iranian protesters standing directly in front of the Iranian Parliament, also known as the Majlis, chanting "Death to the dictator". The video’s description said “people who have lost their properties and investments due to [Iranian] government-run confiscation of their wealth clash with State Security Forces.” The male and female Iranian protesters who were accosted and brutally assaulted by the police shouted slogans against the regime, such as: “Shame, shame on the police force!” “Death to the dictator.” “Death to the demagogue.” "Death to ISIS-like police" and "I will kill, I will kill, whoever killed my brother." For Americans and Israelis this is a welcome contrast to the usual, “Death to America, Death to Israel” chants orchestrated by the Iranian “rel...

U.S. will only talk to North Korea about freeing U.S. citizens: White House U.S. President Donald Trump makes a statement on the mass shooting in Las Vegas from the Diplomatic Room at the White House in Washington, U.S., October 2, 2017. WASHINGTON, Reuters, October 2, 2017   - The Trump administration will not hold any talks with North Korea at this time, except for possible conversations about freeing U.S. citizens who have been detained there, the White House said on Monday. “We’ve been clear that now is not the time to talk,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters, amplifying on a tweet from President Donald Trump over the weekend that had been seen as undercutting U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. “The only conversations that have taken place, or that would, would be on bringing back Americans who have been detained,” Sanders said. “Beyond that, there will be no conversations with North Korea at this time.”

Tension with North Korea more political than military, US chief of staff says

Tension with North Korea more political than military, US chief of staff says Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford tells senators North Korea has not changed the posture of its troops despite flaring political tensions with Washington WASHINGTON, AFP , 26 September 2017 -  US relations with North Korea may be 'charged' but tensions in the standoff remain political rather than military, the US chairman of the joint chiefs of staff said Tuesday. 'While the political space is clearly very charged right now, we haven't seen a change in the posture of North Korean forces,' General Joe Dunford told the Senate Armed Services Committee. 'We watch that very carefully,' Dunford said, in response to questions from Republican Senator John McCain about rising tensions with Pyongyang after US President Donald Trump mockingly labeled North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un 'Little Rocket Man' and said his regime 'won't be a...

Congress and the Public Deserve Transparency on the Iran Deal

Image
Congress and the Public Deserve Transparency on the Iran Deal US President Donald J. Trump The Weekly Standard , September 25, 2017  - Announcing the adoption of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, then-Secretary of State John Kerry said that the agreement marked a “measurable step away from the prospect of nuclear proliferation, towards transparency and cooperation.” The administration, though, was far from transparent or cooperative about explaining the Iran deal. Lost in the discussion of whether President Trump should re-certify Iran as compliant with the JCPOA by next month is the basic fact that there’s still a lot about the deal lawmakers and the public don’t know.
