A FREE IRAN: MARYAM RAJAVI’S 10-POINT-PLAN

A FREE IRAN: MARYAM RAJAVI’S 10-POINT-PLAN

by Mahmood Hakamian

Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the Iranian Resistance Forces has a ten-point-plan for a free Iran to ensure that the Iranian people will have democracy, equality, and freedom.

Maryam Rajavi is the leader of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), a coalition of Iranian Resistance groups, which includes the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as its largest member. The plan is approved by both the NCRI and MEK.
Let’s take a little look at the plan.

  DEMOCRACY

The plan advocates free and fair elections as the only avenue to political leadership(1) and stresses that there will be universal suffrage(1) for the citizens of Iran, with no barriers to voting rights or holding political office based on class, race, religion(4), or gender(5).

In the free Iran envisaged by Maryam Rajavi, no political parties or groups will be criminalised for their beliefs(2).

This is a stark contrast to the Mullahs who criminalised the MEK in the early 1980s and continue to imprison, torture, and kill MEK members and affiliates to this day. The Iranian Regime also appoints the Supreme Leader and rig elections for the President and members of Parliament.

 HUMAN RIGHTS

Maryam Rajavi, the NCRI, and the MEK are committed to human rights and have already enshrined the Universal Declaration of Humans Rights and its international covenants and conventions(7) into their plan.

They want a Free Iran to include freedom of speech and of the press(2), an abolition of the death penalty(3), and complete gender equality(5) including freedom for women in the areas of marriage, divorce, clothing, education and employment.

By comparison, the mullahs are one of the biggest human rights violators in the world, being both the world’s leader in executions by capita and of children

   THE LEGAL SYSTEM

Maryam Rajavi’s plan has a strong focus on setting up a modern justice system with the defendant being afforded the presumption of innocence, the right to a lawyer and the right to a fair, public trial(6). It also wants judges to be independent (6). As mentioned above, Maryam Rajavi, the NCRI, and the MEK, all seek an end to the death penalty (3).

In contrast, the mullahs have one of the least transparent justice systems in the world, with regular executions and one person arrested every 40 minutes.

  RELIGION

Maryam Rajavi, the NCRI, and the MEK see the separation of Church and State as the cornerstone to a Free Iran, which would include the prohibition of discrimination based on religion/denomination(4) and the abolition of the mullahs’ Sharia law(6).

  FOREIGN POLICY

The plan sets out a foreign policy based on peaceful coexistence with other countries around the world, with respect for the United Nations Charter(9) and stipulates that Maryam Rajavi, the NCRI, and the MEK want a non-nuclear Iran(10) with no weapons of mass destruction.

In this plan, Maryam Rajavi underscores the plan for the autonomy of Iranian Kurdistan which was adopted by the NCRI (7).

This would mean an end to the Regime’s regional destabilisation and its nuclear weapons threat.

   ECONOMY

In this plan, Maryam Rajavi, the NCRI, and the MEK recognise the need for all Iranian people to enjoy equal opportunity in employment and business ventures(8) and set out their commitment to the market economy.

This is in contrast to the Regime, which controls the majority of the economy, and leaves millions starving.

   ENVIRONMENT

Maryam Rajavi, the NCRI, and the MEK also vow to protect and revitalise the environment (8), which is especially important because of the very real impact that droughts and air pollution (and the mullahs’ poor response) are having of the Iranian people’s health.
